Volunteer lawyers offer free legal help at Lyman Community Center in Gulfport
Today, volunteer lawyers came together to offer free legal help in Gulfport.
Mississippi Volunteer Lawyer Project, in partnership with the Diversity Center and Precious Prodigy Mentoring, held an expungement clinic at the Lyman Community Center.
Guests were able to get legal advice on foreclosure prevention, family law, divorce, wills, and expungement of felonies and misdemeanors. Diversity Center CEO Dr. Crystal Wingo said, “Many people, at a young age, may have gotten a misdemeanor or a felony and it stop them from going to college because they cannot apply for financial aid. They can’t vote and they may not even have a high paying position or a job. So, by allowing individuals to expunge their records that allows them to restore themselves and be a viable citizen.”
Another legal clinic will take place in January.
