Visitors stopped by the Hancock County Fair over the weekend

The Hancock County Fair was in full swing this weekend, bringing lots of visitors to the fairgrounds.

Over the Kiln Saturday, the fair featured its annual horse racing where jockeys saddled up and looked to get their horse through the finish line the quickest.

When the dust settled, winners were crowned in nine total races. Horse Racing Coordinator Shala Ladner said, “Here in Hancock County, we’re a tight knit family. With anything, we might all compete against each other, but at the end of the day, we’re family. We all want to see each other do good, but it’s good competitive fun out here. “

12-year-old Stone County Rodeo Cowboy Trevor Luke Williams said, “I came out here five times and I’ve been competing since I was six and my dad and my older sister got me started in it. My older sister is on the pro rodeo circuit right now. Just the people and the livestock. It’s just all really fun and the people are nice.”

Guests honored Kiln native and accomplished jockey Jarrod Deschamp throughout the afternoon. Deschamp died from respiratory-related issues following his race at the Neshoba County Fair in July.
