Vintage barber shop experience opening in Ocean Springs
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)-The City of Ocean Springs has a new business, throwing it back to the old days of going to the barbershop for a cut and a shave.
The Brewed Barber Company is located close to downtown, just across the street from Oak Park.
Owner and Operator Brittany Harrison said, “I wanted to create a space like an old barber shop, like the old feel we had back in the day. We want you to come in and hang out with us. We want to hear your story, your neighbor’s and your best friend’s story.”
Harrison says she was inspired to open the business and worked with her boyfriend to make that dream a reality.
It’s a family run business with Harrison’s daughter, Jade English, working as the manager. The Brewed Barber Company offers a space for clients to feel pampered. The business does cater to men, but all are welcome to come in. “Any women, any man, all of them. They are all welcome.”
English tells us grey re-shading is offered for hair and beards, but other types of hair dyes or re-coloring are not available.
The Brewed Barber Company offers straight razor cuts, hot towel shaves, as well as normal trim and shave options. “It’s a good process because we definitely want it to be luxury. We want the men to come in and be pampered. We wanted them to relax in the hour that they’re here.”
“Being in the business for almost 20 years, I know that men like to be pampered too. We want you to come in and have that pampered feeling. We wanted to create a really cool man cave for you.”
Harrison tells News 25 she wants to create a place where the whole family can enjoy, saying she wants clients to come in and enjoy themselves. “We’ve had some clients come in early for their appointment, sit and have a drink before they have their haircut. We want you to do that, we want you to come hang out with us.”
Barber Jace Scarbrough spoke to us about why he is excited to work for Brewed Barber Company. “When I first went to barber school, I wanted to bring back vintage barbering with the straight razor. It kind of got lost with the trade over the years. It’s hard to come across vintage barbering with hot lather, towels and razors. Back in the day, people would go to the barber to hang out. Find out about weekly news, what’s going on in town, fashion trends. We wanted to recreate that culture here and bring back old barbering.”
The company opened on June 30, but an official ribbon cutting will take place on July 19 at 4 p.m. The Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the event.
