[Viewer Discretion Advised] MSU standout expresses regret over 2016 incident

Jeffrey Simmons’ first year in Starkville was a controversial one to say the least. Before ever taking the field for the first time, he pled no contest to a simple assault charge after a video surfaced of him hitting a woman on the ground multiple times.
Mississippi State tried to defend him last year by saying Simmons was attempting to break up the fight and the school suspended him for the opening game against South Alabama.
At yesterday’s media days, Simmons expressed regret over how he conducted himself in that incident and tried to detail how he’s grown as a person since then. “You live and learn, I always live by that. Everybody makes mistakes and just going back off that incident, like I said I regret it. I moved on from it and I’m just a better person today. So, me today wouldn’t have even been in that situation.”
In terms of on the field production, Simmons was tenth on the Bulldogs in total tackles last season and was tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles.
