Victim identified in Gulfport officer-involved shooting

JACKSON, Miss. – Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer confirmed that one person is dead after an officer involved shooting in Gulfport on Saturday.
According to Switzer, the victim has been identified as 27-year-old Kendrall Tate of Gulfport.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating the incident involving the Gulfport Police Department that occurred on May 4th, 2024.
Officers with the Gulfport Police Department were responding to a call near Reed Avenue in Gulfport, regarding a stabbing.
Upon arrival, an altercation occurred between an officer and the subject on scene. During the altercation, the officer discharged his weapon striking the subject. The subject was transported to a local hospital.
The officer received no serious physical injuries.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
