Vicksburg Mayor Calls for BP Money
Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs is looking to collect $1.5 million in BP oil spill settlement money for tourism projects within the city.
In a press conference Monday, Flaggs said he hopes lawmakers will vote to disperse BP funds to all parts of the state.
The matter is likely to become an intense battle during the 2017 session as Coast legislators have already vowed to fight as hard as they can to ensure the majority of the $750 million in settlement money stays in South Mississippi, an effort Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves has backed.
