Vicari Auto Auction kicks off at Coast Coliseum
The Vicari Auction Company is driving big spenders to the Mississippi Coast Coliseum where it’s holding the Cruisin’ the Coast 25th anniversary sale.
The trading done in the coliseum’s convention center is a spectacle for some. For others, it is a way of life.
Frenetic auctioneers sold classic car memorabilia to enthusiasts who have arrived on the Coast from all over the country.
Millions of dollars’ worth of automobile history gleamed on the show floor waiting to be sold over the next few days.
Chrissy Chittick is here from Florida trying to sell her 1956 Chevrolet. “It’s just a passion for them. We just love them, we love riding down the street in an old truck or an old car, it’s just a passion. I love to look at them. They’re works of art.”
Daniel Nation made the short drive from Ocean Springs. “You have to drive them. You know, knew cars, you just go and they cruise, but these you really have to pay attention, and it kind of steps you back a little bit into time.”
Vicari Auto Auction Deal Doc Steve Williams said, “People just have a love for classic cars, for collectible cars. A lot of times it takes them back to their college years, their high school years.”
The auction is the week’s main event for some Cruisers, whether to window shop or put serious money on the table. “When we’re ready to go, we’re ready to go. If we find a car in Louisiana we pick up and go to Louisiana from Florida. We travel all over. It’s our retirement and we love it.”
“I was big into Corvettes and Mustangs and Camaros for many years, but now I’m looking at the stuff that my father and my grandfather were into, really digging some that’s kind of old school pre-war stuff.”
“One size does not fit all here. We have something for everybody. We have cars that will probably go for less than 10,000 dollars and then quite a number of cars that will go for a 100, 125, 150, maybe even $200,000.”
The auto auction lasts until Saturday.
