VFW Post 2539 in Gulfport holds Veterans Day Ceremony

In Gulfport, the VFW Post 2539 held their annual Veterans Day Ceremony.

The event was open to the public and offered up free food to veterans. Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes attended the ceremony as he presented a proclamation of the event.

U.S. Navy Commander Trey Johnson was the speaker. Johnson tells News 25 today is about the past, present, and future veterans. “Days like today are very important to take time out, not time off, to say thank you to our veterans not just for the service they provided while wearing the military uniform but also what they continue to do in supporting our local communities today.”

Each year around 250,000 military personnel transitions from active duty to civilian life.
