Veterans visit WWII Museum
Veterans from across the Coast loaded up on buses for the annual trip to the World War II Museum in New Orleans.
News 25’s Payton Malone joined the group and has the story.
The sights and sounds at the World War II Museum in New Orleans are constant reminders of what veterans endured over 70 years ago, veterans like Lloyd Moyle who fought in World War II and remember it like it was yesterday. “Then after the war was over, our outfit, all of 1946 is looking for land mines. The country was loaded with land mines and we were digging up land mines.”
The museum also brings back memories of those who weren’t so fortunate to make it home.
Over 130 veterans and their families loaded up on buses in Gulfport and traveled to the world class museum in New Orleans for the sixth year in a row. Chad Riemann organizes the annual event. He knows the importance of the trip and the impact it can have on those who served our country. “You learn more about the real stories of our history and the actual sacrifice that was made.”
Not only World War II veterans went on the trip, but those who served in other wars are grateful for experiencing the museum and what it stands for. Vietnam War Veteran John Snow said, “I spent 33 years in the Air Force. I was in Vietnam and two and a half tours and this just brings back a lot of memories, especially Ernie Pyle. He was on Iwo Jima Island. I visited his grave before. It’s just amazing for all these people who were in World War II and it brings back a lot of memories. Some good and a lot of bad stuff, but it is good to see them come. It’s nice.”
