Veterans Golf Tournament set for Saturday

A promise made nearly 40 years ago that has not only been kept, but keeps growing strong.

South Mississippian Richard ‘Taco’ Sanchez was among the military men assigned on a daring mission back in 1980 to help rescue 53 American hostages held in Iran.

That mission ended in the loss of eight American servicemen, along with a battlefield promise to take care of the 17 children of these heroes left behind.

This promise resulted in the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and to date has helped send hundreds of children of our military’s fallen heroes to get a higher education.

This weekend, you can lend a hand at the second annual Veterans for Veterans Golf Tournament in Gulfport. The tournament tees off Saturday morning at Bayou Vista Golf Course on Washington Avenue.
