Veterans Golden Age Games in Biloxi

This week, over 800 athletes will be in Biloxi for the Veterans Golden Age Games.
To compete in the games, a person must be a veteran, at least 55-years-old, and receive healthcare from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Coming from 46 states, the athletes will compete in bowling, boccia ball, cycling, badminton as well as other sports.
Today News 25 caught up with a veteran from San Diego who is in town for the games. Former 1st Class Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy Anthony Ackee said, “That’s what really interested me, the camaraderie, and then to see fellow veterans who came back from Nam and different places. You know, we’ve found a hub to support each other and enjoy something and then when I came in here to Gulfport for the first time, the greeting that we got at the airport was emotional to me. It lets me know that despite everything else, my service is appreciated.”
Twenty-nine of the participating veterans are from right here in Mississippi.
