Veterans Day Pier Walk

You can help others while honoring those who have served our country at the first ever Veterans Day Pier Walk at Gulfport’s Ken Combs Pier tomorrow.
A ceremony for our veterans, a beach bonfire and a walk to the end of the pier are all part of the event, which kicks off at 4 tomorrow afternoon. You can also make food or monetary donations to help feed those in need in our area on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Donations will benefit the Gulf Coast Public Safety Feed the Needy Program.
This walk for our veterans is modeled after the Ken Combs Earth Day Pier Walk. Pier Walk Organizer Ken Combs Jr. said, “We created it in 2012, a few years after my father passed. We just wanted to give back to the community and honor all loved ones and help others at the same time.”
Ken Combs Sr. is a former Gulfport Mayor. Combs’ son tells News 25 they felt this was an important cause and the two go hand in hand, honoring veterans and collecting for those who need it, especially because a large portion of our homeless community here on the Coast are veterans.
