Vegas Taking Bets on Super Bowl
As the Broncos and Panthers prepare to take the field for the Super Bowl, football fans race to Vegas to get in their last minute bets.
Sports betting remains illegal in Mississippi, and nearly every other state, but that doesn’t keep fans from wagering money on the Super Bowl. In 2014, the Broncos faced off against the Seahawks and Las Vegas saw over $100 million worth of wagers on the big game.
While sports fans in Mississippi can’t bet on sports, they can still try their hand at fantasy sports. Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood is trying to change that, which is something D’iberville native Jason Quave doesn’t agree with. Quave won $1 million in 2014 through the daily fantasy sports site Draft Kings. “It changed my life. It was remarkable to hit that. Paid off my home, paid off both my children’s college. I did do great things with the money. I’m a big pro for daily fantasy. I don’t see it as gambling. I see it as fantasy sports. It’s been around for 30 years.”
News 25 contacted Attorney General Jim Hood. He tells News 25 that he stands by his interpretation that it is illegal to offer fantasy sports wagering to Mississippians.
