Vancleave’s Kelsey Mason to represent Team USA at the Scotland Junior Golf Invitational

On Friday she’s playing golf at Whispering Pines golf club in Moss Point, and on Saturday she leaves to represent Team USA in the Scotland Junior Golf Invitational. Get to know Kelsey Mason’s journey to St. Andrews and how she’s getting there.

“Yeah it’s wild!” said Kelsey Mason. “I was like ‘Is this real?’ but yeah, it’s going to be fun and I’m excited.”

Yes it’s real, and yes it’s exciting! Vancleave alum and now Shelton State signee Kelsey Mason is one of only 21 golfers in the country to represent Team USA at the Scotland Junior Golf Invitational. This invitational is a six day golf tour through Scotland’s most iconic courses where Team USA will practice, then compete against Team Scotland. This journey includes playing at the oldest course which is also the home of the Ryder Cup, the St. Andrews Golf Club.

“I’m super excited for this experience,” Mason said. “I’m playing at St. Andrews. If you know golf, you know St. Andrews. I’m also playing at North Berwick. I’m just super excited to learn how to play over there. It’s super windy and rainy sometimes. The courses are different and the people are different. The courses are really closed in compared to over here, so I’m excited for something new and ready for the challenge that it’s going to bring.”

One way she’s able to represent Team USA and show off this awesome red, white and blue gear is an NIL deal, which will also help her with expenses during her junior college career.

“The NIL deal is through Generator Supercenter and it’ll help me with college funding, help me make some money on the side and help me fund this tournament,” said Mason. “I’m very grateful for it, and very thankful. I think it’s very exciting to be one of the first or first this year to have an NIL deal.”

Congratulations Kelsey on all your success, and we cannot wait to cheer you on in Scotland and at the collegiate level!
