Vancleave man identified after domestic dispute and standoff with police
A Vancleave man is behind bars at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center after a domestic dispute led to an hours-long standoff.
A man barricaded himself inside his home on Ridgeland Road for nearly 5 hours in an attempt to evade the police after that domestic dispute. He eventually surrendered around 12:15 – at which point he was taken into custody.
42-year-old James English has been charged with aggravated domestic assault against his wife, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 7:30 a.m., English’s wife and daughter left the home and called 911.
“We’ve had previous calls here, but I can’t really get into that. Domestic violence situations injure and kill more officers every year than any other calls that we get,” said Captain Rich Crager with JCSO. “So, these are always taken very seriously for safety reasons.”
When responding to the call, the sheriff’s department learned English had barricaded himself inside the home.
Some locals were evacuated for their safety and multiple agencies in Jackson County were called in, including an MRAP armored vehicle. Captain Rich Crager explains why it took so long to bring English into custody.
“We want to try to get them out safely. We’re not here to hurt. Anytime that we can end a situation like this peacefully, that’s what we’re all about.”
There are no details on the domestic call at this time.
