VA Pact Act event offers information on expansion of services for veterans
The Veterans Affairs Center in Biloxi is encouraging veterans to take advantage of their benefits.
The VA held a Pact event today to inform veterans, their families, care givers, and survivors about the Pact Act.
The Pact Act allows an expansion of services for veterans exposed to toxic chemicals, burn pits, and things of that nature.
Veteran advocates such as the girl scouts, Humana Health Insurance, and the Mississippi Sea Wolves set up tables at the event, encouraging veterans to take advantage of their benefits.
The Department of Veteran Affairs recognizes the Pact Act as one of the largest legislation pacts to be passed by Congress. VA Chief of Public Affairs Shawn Shenk said, “First and foremost, every veteran has earned the benefits that we’re offering here today. So, it’s really just connecting veterans to those benefits. The second thing is, there’s a misnomer out there, where veterans think well, I’m going to save that for someone else. That’s just not how the VA works. It is very much a use or lose system. And so, the more veterans that use the system and get the benefits they’ve earned, the more veterans we are able to help.”
To qualify under the Pact Act, veterans need to apply by August 9th.
