VA Offers Aid to Homeless Veterans
We all know that our homeless population here on the Coast is relatively large but now, very few of them are veterans.
This is according to Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care Director Anthony Dawson, who takes pride in the effort our VA makes to take care of homeless veterans. The VA has seen many homeless veterans go through their program which connects them with affordable housing and provides them support services like helping to find employment or substance abuse treatment.
One formerly homeless veteran, Alex Stallworth, tells News 25 the VA changed his life. “I was suffering many addictions, homelessness, a criminal background and things that were unabling me to move forward in life. So, I stand here today, proud to be a face of many veterans that the VA has helped,” said Stallworth.
If you know of a veteran who is homeless or needs help with housing, call the VA at 877-424-3838.
