USM’s Matt Wallner named Freshman All American

Not the way Southern Miss centerfielder Matt Wallner wanted to end his season with a loss to MSU in the Hattiesburg Regional, but still a freshman campaign for the ages.
Today, Wallner was tabbed as a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball, just a couple weeks after being named Conference USA Freshman of the Year.
In 2017, he set new USM freshmen records with 19 home runs and 63 RBIs, not to mention he had a sub 2 ERA across 14 and two-thirds innings on the mound.
Later this month, Wallner will join the USA Baseball Collegiate Team training camp to earn a chance to make this summer’s roster.
