USM only regional winner in final C-USA season

Ever since Southern Miss won the 2016 Conference USA Tournament title game, things have been a little different for USM baseball.

In fact, that was the first of six Conference USA championships over the next six seasons, culminating with this year’s regular season crown.

Now, the Golden Eagles are the only C-USA team left standing in their final season in the league.

What a way to go out, hosting their first-ever Super Regional at Pete Taylor Park against Ole Miss. Head Coach Scott Berry said, “You know it’s really special in the last year of Conference USA, I feel like that we go out, not only on top as a regular season champions, but we also go out as the only team to win a regional this year and advance on so, you know, I felt like when we ended Conference USA we were on top. You know, there was a day when Rice you know, Rice was on top of everybody. We were all trying to catch Rice. But, you know, I really feel like over these past five, six years that everybody has been trying to catch us and I say that because a lot of the coaches you know, said that.”

Southern Miss and Ole Miss lead things off at 3 p.m. Saturday for game one of this best-of-three series.
