USM Gulf Park Homecoming Week

John Cox has been the voice of the University of Southern Mississippi’s Golden Eagles for 38 years. Today, he was at the Gulf Park campus getting faculty and students excited about homecoming week.
The veteran sportscaster handles the play by play duties for Golden Eagles football, men’s basketball, and baseball. A USM graduate himself, he shared interesting details about his career, his love for the Golden Eagles, and the unity between the Gulf Park and Hattiesburg campuses. “A lot of people just imagine the campus in Hattiesburg as being Southern Miss but Gulf Park down here is as important as anything. They’re a part of it; we need them involved in everything that we do, whether it is the academic side or the athletic side. It’s a lot of fun to come down here and visit with them and find out that they’re just as excited about things about Southern Miss as our students in Hattiesburg are," said Cox.
Cox tells News 25 after 38 years of voicing the Golden Eagles he enjoys his job now more than ever and has no plans to retire anytime soon.
