USM Gulf Park campus welcomes new president Joe Paul

Dr. Joe Paul returned to the Gulf Park campus this afternoon, but this time as the president of the University of Southern Mississippi.

On October 24th, Dr. Paul was named USM president after serving as the interim following the retirement of Dr. Rodney Bennett.

Paul was welcomed to the Gulf Park campus with a luncheon at Chimney Pavilion.

Faculty, staff, students, and USM alumni listened to Paul talk about his mission and vision for Southern Miss over the next four years.

Paul said being the 11th president of USM is an honor, but also an opportunity. “Our whole coastal operations, our research centers, eight of them across three counties, this gem of a campus, this is our greatest opportunity for fast growth. We’re going to invest in coastal programs for coastal people for coastal jobs, and we’re going to see this thing really take off.”

Paul says his goal over the next four years is to leave Southern Miss better than he found it.
