USM football not adding 12th game

If there’s anything encouraging about USM’s 26-23 overtime loss at UAB on Saturday, it’s the hope that Southern Miss can now win its final two regular season games and become bowl eligible for the fourth straight year.

That’s the only option left on the table for the Golden Eagles with their hunt to add a 12th game reportedly over.

Per the Sun Herald, Athletic Director Jon Gilbert has decided not to utilize the team’s open date on December 1st which would have given the black and gold an extra chance at the post-season if they were to lose one of their next two.

First up is Louisiana Tech, having already moved on from UAB.  USM Head Coach Jay Hopson said, “Bottom line is it’s a heartbreaking loss, it really was. But we’ll go back to work. I know this football team will come out fighting, so it’s life, it’s adversity, we’ve just got to continue to press on.”

Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech will kick things off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday from MM Roberts Stadium. It’s also Senior Day for USM.
