USM Fans Keep the Faith Despite Recent Struggles
After starting the season with a record of 4-1, Southern Miss has just two wins after the first of October. Combine those struggles with it being the day after Thanksgiving and you could say USM fans had an excuse not to be in attendance today.
For those loyal to the Black and Gold on Senior Day, they were hoping they might be able to celebrate a return trip to a bowl game. Needless to say, their faith was rewarded.
Senior Dixie Darling Lora Lavigne said, “It’s definitely hard because you know how good the team is. You know how hard they’ve worked to have such a successful season and to see it kind of back fall, it’s really tough. But again, like I said, it’s just great being there to keep encouraging them and know that they can do better and it’s only up from here.”
Tom Potter has attended every USM home game in 2016. He said, “It tests my loyalty. It tests everybody’s loyalty, I believe, but you’ve got to keep coming back. You’ve got to support them.”
Ken and Holly Kendall’s daughter plays in the USM band, the Pride of Mississippi. They said, “Go Eagles! To the top, to the top!”
Last year, USM beat La Tech in Ruston to win the West 58-24.
