USM Baseball Coach Speaks at Luncheon
Southern Miss Head Baseball Coach Scott Berry says he found his place in the game through education.
Berry was the speaker at this week’s baseball luncheon at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum in Biloxi. Berry spoke to the crowd about his love for baseball and how he got into collegiate coaching.
Berry says he was forced to give up baseball while playing for a junior college after hurting his back, but says this injury eventually led him to his coaching career and increased his appreciation for education. “The job that I hold today, I wouldn’t be able to hold that job if I didn’t have my degree, which I have two degrees, an undergraduate and a graduate degree, but I think the importance of education, what it plays in each other’s lives certainly contributes to the success that you have and maps out where you want to go.”
Berry tells News 25 he’s looking forward to a great season with USM this year.
WXXV is a proud sponsor of the “Our Love Affair with Baseball” luncheon.
If you plan on attending next week’s luncheon, arrive early. Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Dale Murphy will be speaking.
