USM alum Matt Wallner recalled by Minnesota Twins
Southern Miss alum Matt Wallner doesn’t really have much left to prove at the Minor League level and the Minnesota Twins agree, having recalled the USM home run king over the weekend.
On Saturday, Wallner returning to the Big League club, still awaiting his first game action since late May.
In a limited 11-game stretch earlier this year, Wallner tore the cover off the ball, hitting at a clip of .368 with a home run, a double, three runs scored, four RBI, and a stolen base.
During his 67 games with the Triple A St. Paul Saints, Wallner posted a .291 average with 11 dingers, 20 doubles, 50 runs scored, and 47 RBI.
Wallner is the fifth ranked prospect of the Twins, who drafted him out of Southern Miss 39th overall in 2019.
He was named International League Player of the Week last month.
