USM alum Matt Wallner homers in first game with Minnesota Twins

Southern Miss alum Matt Wallner homering in his very first Major League Baseball game, following a promotion to his hometown Minnesota Twins on Saturday.

That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise following 128 games across Double A and Triple A in which Wallner left the yard 27 times to go along with 32 doubles and 95 RBI while maintaining a .277 batting average.

What’s more, Wallner homering against the Cleveland Guardians with former USM teammates Nick Sandlin and Kirk McCarty both sitting in the opposing bullpen.

Wallner is the all-time home run leader at Southern Miss with 58 long balls.
