Using gardening to offset inflation

Grab your gloves and shovel and get to gardening.

With rising prices from inflation making it harder for people to afford groceries, gardening can be a key factor when it comes to offsetting that inflation.

At Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, they have seven different gardens on the museum campus where people are allowed to pick up fresh and healthy food.

The gardens are full of vegetables and herbs that have been grown by museum volunteers. Education Director Emily Brannan said, “We got a grant from South Arts and we’re working in collaboration with the East Biloxi Community Collaborative and we got these gardens because East Biloxi is not just one but two food deserts. So, these gardens provide herbs and vegetables for the local community to come and pick from.”

Pickup from the gardens is available for anyone in East Biloxi and Ocean Springs. Picking your food and preparing it on your own not only saves money, it allows you to spend time with family and friends and eat healthy.
