USDA funds earmarked for Gulf shrimp

Federal funding has been earmarked to benefit South Mississippi’s seafood industry.

According to Senator Roger Wicker’s office, $25 million of USDA Section 32 money will go towards fresh Gulf shrimp’s inclusion in nutrition assistance programs and charitable meal distributions.

$30 million is also earmarked for farm raised catfish here in the Magnolia state.

The total Section 32 appropriation for the entire country comes out to around $8.4 billion.
