Urban Renewal Plan proposed for City of Ocean Springs

New developments might be underway in Ocean Springs soon because of a new proposal.

The Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen received an urban renewal plan aiming to develop and redevelop various areas within the city.

The renewal project is looking to enhance tourism and economic development in Ocean Springs as well as improving the public health and safety and welfare of the city.

Under the Urban Renewal Proposal, developers and property owners will be receiving some much-needed assistance if the plan is approved.

Mayor Kenny Holloway says he is looking forward to the growth of Ocean Springs. “The vast majority of the Urban Renewal Plan is underdeveloped areas. We don’t have a whole lot of slum and blighted in Ocean Springs, so we’re just trying to grow some of the areas that need a little help. These are incentives to help those areas grow and provide assistance to property owners or developers.”

The planning commission will review the plan and a public hearing will be held on a future date.
