Upgrades to Gulfport Sports Complex
Plans to expand the Gulfport Sportsplex could mean home-run for the city, as well as the entire coast. Officials are working to bring eight new fields to the Sportsplex: six new softball and baseball fields, and two football and soccer stadium fields. Project managers tell News 25 that one of the softball fields will be called “The Miracle,” because it is specially designed to accommodate athletes with physical disabilities.
Since going up in 2001, the Gulfport Sportsplex has brought in 2,000 teams. Magnolia Bay Hotel and Suites tells News 25 baseball season is a busy time, as their rooms are often booked to capacity. And, the new upgrades to the sports complex will make it a premier spot for sporting events.
“This right now is one of the finest facilities you’ll find on the coast,” says Rusty Ramage, who is the manager of the Gulfport Sportsplex. “With our new addition it is going to be the place that everybody is going to want to play, participate in tournaments and come back on vacation as well, to see the Gulf Coast.”
