Update on Mississippi Power restoration efforts in Georgia
Mississippi Power has confirmed that they have begun to restore power to customers in south Georgia who have been affected by Helene.
This comes after their storm team headed east on Thursday morning in preparation to assist Georgia Power in their power restoration efforts.
WXXV News 25’s Marco Bitonel had the chance to talk to Kaila Moran Griffith, a Mississippi Power communications specialist who’s been with the storm team since the beginning of the restoration efforts. She let us know that 150 additional resources have been added, bringing the Mississippi Power storm team to now more than 400. She also provided insight into what sort of conditions the team is dealing with and the status of restoring power to those impacted by Helene in Georgia.
“If you’re familiar with a hurricane you can probably imagine what this looks like. A lot of trees down, wire down, poles down, some structure damage as well. Like I said this is a pretty impacted community as far as outages go. Our crews have been working now all day to get customers back on. They’re going to continue to work safely and we’ll try to restore service to as many customers as they can here in Georgia.”
