Update on Lafayette Theater Shooting
Survivors of Thursday night’s movie theater shooting in Louisiana say it was a chaotic scene.
The shooter has been identified as John Houser, a man described by Lafayette police as ‘kind of a drifter.’
They’re still figuring out a motive, using wigs and disguises found in his motel room as evidence to piece together some kind of reason for the shooting.
Louisiana State University senior Lucas Knepper is among survivors and says Houser just started firing randomly at the crowd of people seeing the movie “Trainwreck.” He recalls injuring his arm as he jumped over a banister in the theater. “At first, I had no idea what was happening. We thought it was the movie but then once we realized that this is real, like this guy is shooting everyone in the theater and he was so close to us, just panic and you kind of black out.”
Houser fatally shot himself once he realized police had arrived. The other two people killed were 21-year-old Macy Breaux and 33-year-old Jillian Johnson.
