Upcoming Christmas festivities in Biloxi

There are plenty of events this week and weekend in Biloxi to help everyone get into the holiday spirit.

Beginning Thursday, Biloxi kicks off the holiday season with the annual lighting of the lighthouse in front of the visitors center on Highway 90 at 6 p.m.

The public is welcome to gather at the city’s signature landmark for the ceremony and enjoy hot chocolate as Mayor FoFo Gilich will be flipping the switch.

Friday at 6, the annual Christmas on the Water Children’s Parade will take place in downtown Biloxi followed by the lighting of the Biloxi town green.

Saturday evening, boats will cruise from the Mississippi Sound to Point Cadet for the annual Christmas on the Water boat parade. Biloxi Historical Administrator Bill Raymond said, “The boat parade still happened, but the rest of the events didn’t happen. So, we’re excited. We haven’t done this in two years. It’s great to be back and doing these events in person again. It really is a chance for the community to come together. People are looking for those chances. Every event that has happened this fall that’s been able to go forward has just been– attendance has been above expectation just because people are looking for things to do.”

This year, the visitors center’s annual lighthouse Christmas ornament is based on a photograph of the lighthouse from 1963 covered in snow.

Only a limited number of ornaments are made every year. They are available for purchase in the visitor center’s gift shop.
