Until Valhalla Ruck March and 5K preview
Danger-22 in partnership with Gulfport Behavioral Health System have come together to host their fourth annual ‘Until Valhalla Ruck March and 5K Run’ to help raise awareness of veteran suicide.
This event is a way to help provide resources for those who have served our country. Those interested in participating can build a ruck team, ruck alone, or run in the 5K.
Teams must consist of five members and each member’s completion time will be tallied to determine team time. Jourdan Natale with Danger-22 said, “The ruck march is 22 kilometers and that’s for the 22 veterans who commit suicide a day. So, it’s about 13.67 miles for the ruck. We are doing the 5K which is 3.1 for the ruck march. To compete, we do require the males have 40 pounds of weight and the females have 30 pounds of weight. If you want to participate in the 5K weight is not required. We also have known competitors who are going to walk the entire way for the ruck or they can walk for the 5K.”
The event is Saturday at West Side Park in Gulfport. Registration/check-in time is 6:45 a.m. Opening ceremony starts at 7:45 a.m. 5K starts at 8 a.m. and Ruck starts at 8:15 a.m. The registration fee is $35.
