Bryan Caldwell and Ron Ruland are set to advance to a runoff election for the Ward 2 City Council seat in Gulfport

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)– The preliminary results are in for the special election for the Ward 2 seat on the Gulfport City Council.

Four candidates–Bryan Caldwell, Ron Ruland, Howard Page, and Kelsea Bonds–appeared on Tuesday’s ballot to fill the vacancy caused by long-time councilman Ron Roland’s resignation due to health reasons back in April.

With 100 percent of the vote reporting, the unofficial results show Bryan Caldwell and Ron Ruland heading to a June 30th runoff election.

Caldwell led the four-person field Tuesday night with 44 percent of the vote, followed by Ruland with 32 percent of the vote.

Howard Page placed third with 20 percent of the vote, with Kelsea Bonds behind page at four percent of the vote.

The Municipal Election Commission will meet in the days to come to certify these results.

The winner of the runoff will serve the remainder of the current council term that runs through June 30, 2029.
