United Healthcare Farm to Fork Program

Mississippi is ranked 49th in the nation for overall health. More than 35 percent of Mississippi adults are considered obese, according to the 2015 America’s Health Rankings Report.
That’s why United Healthcare partnered with Alcorn State University Extension Program again to provide free bags of farm fresh produce to their members.
Ninety bags full of fresh vegetables grown right here in Mississippi were handed out from the Good Deeds Community Center in Gulfport. All of this was for a goal of promoting a healthier lifestyle and more nutritious diet to their members and Mississippi as a whole. Community Outreach Specialist Danielle Polk said, “We want to make sure that our members are getting the proper vegetables especially for their children. We know that buying vegetables in the grocery store can be expensive. If this is how we can help our members, this is what we’re doing.”
Gulfport resident Linda Stanley said, “It helps a lot because I don’t get that many food stamps and at least I can buy meat and put this with the meat.”
Gulfport resident Georgia Gaines said, “It helps me a lot. My food’s got low. I appreciate it and it’s a blessing.”
United Healthcare will host a turkey drive at the Good Deeds Community Center in Gulfport in November.
