United Cajun Navy discusses body found in woods behind Keebler Road

Yesterday, a body matching the description of missing 75-year-old Dorothy Jean Burks was found.

News 25 spoke with United Cajun Navy President Todd Terrell about the tragic discovery.

Terrell says he was contacted by a family member about three weeks into the search and asked if he and his team could assist in the search.

He then searched through his nationwide database of volunteers and put a couple of them on the case to gather info on the situation including former Detective Jerry Summers who led the team back to the woods where the original search party looked for Miss Burks.

Summers decided that he and his team needed to revisit the area, but search it more thoroughly due to it being so heavily wooded.

Within the week of searching once again, they found remains. “Law enforcement, really, their hands are tied in a lot of things plus they kind of jammed up with regular work with crime is so bad, so they don’t have the time to spend on a lot of these cases, so unfortunately a lot of the cases are left up to people like us to go in and either work alongside them or you know with them.”

Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer says there could be a positive identification in about two weeks.
