UN Climate Summit Begins in New York City
Meanwhile on the Coast, the Steps Coalition may receive a planning grant from the Kresge Foundation that will help educate the community on climate change. The grant will also engage the community on becoming more resilient to the possible rise in sea level and severe storms.
Roberta Avila, Executive Director of the Steps Coalition, says, “How we can adapt to the sea level rise and the precipitation changes and the climate related issues that we are experiencing here? So we’ll bring the science to the table and then what we’ll do, we’ll engage the community to find out from them what would they like to see change or happen in their communities to adapt to what we know about climate change that’s happening now.”
Avila says the Sierra Club will also use its settlement from the Kemper Plant lawsuit to battle climate change in south Mississippi by doing things such as installing solar panels in local schools.
