UMMC offering deep brain stimulation to help treat seizures
JACKSON, Miss. (WXXV)- The University of Mississippi Medical Center is the first in the state to offer deep brain stimulation to treat seizures.
The medical center says this brings hope to patients such as Moss Point resident James Canfield, who lives with seizures.
Deep brain stimulation uses electrodes to send impulses to specific parts of the brain, reducing symptoms of neurological disorders.
Medical officials saying they can’t promise a cure to seizures, but the amount can be reduced over time.
