U.S. Sailing Multihull Championship underway
The waters of the Biloxi Bay are in the national spotlight as a national sailboat racing event started today.
The first round of competitors set sail this afternoon at the Ocean Springs Yacht Club with hopes of capturing the U.S. Sailing Multihull Championship title.
Tomorrow, competitors in the Hobie Midwinters East and North Regatta will put their skills to the test. The people in the competition earned the right to be on the Coast after winning events all around the country. Communications Safety Officer John O’Shaughnessy said, “They’re sailing upwind, going around a marker, coming back down wind again and going through another marker set. They may do that once or twice. It’s up to the fellow called the PRO, the principle race officer.”
If you’re looking to catch the action this weekend, ideal viewing spots will be at the Ocean Springs Yacht Club, Front Beach or the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge.
