U.S. Postal Service Christmas package deadlines approaching
It’s the busiest time of the year for the United States Postal Service.
Customer traffic is already steadily increasing this week. Last year was a record-breaking year for the postal service, they delivered 1.1 billion packages despite employee shortages and historic volumes due to online shopping.
This year, they’re anticipating another big holiday season, they’re expecting to deliver around 950 million packages and 12 billion letters, cards, and packages.
This year, they’re wanting to be more efficient with the new ‘delivering for America’ plan. Debra Jean Fetterly with the United States Postal Service said, “We’ve invested in our employees. We have more training. We’ve hired additional employees. We have upgrades to our equipment and at some of our locations we have new package sorters. So, we are ready.”
To ensure your package is under the tree in time for Christmas, they recommend shipping by these dates:
- December 16th for USPS priority mail express military
- December 17th for first class mail service and first class packages
- December 18th for priority mail service
