U.S. Judge To Hear Anti-1523 Arguments

Today, a federal judge will hear arguments over challenges to a law that many are labeling discriminatory.
House Bill 1523 or the Religious Accommodations Act will become law July first unless it is blocked by U.S. District Judge “Carlton Reeves”.
Four lawsuits say the measure is unconstitutional arguing it denies equal protection to the LGBT community.
The suits also claim it favors some people’s religious beliefs over others.
Attorneys arguing to have the law repealed say it could affect not only marriage licenses, but also adoptions, business practices, and school bathroom policies.
Meanwhile state attorneys say the new law does not prevent the plaintiffs from getting married or from exercising any rights associated with their moral beliefs.
