U.S. Bicycle Route 90 approved in Harrison County
Harrison County is headed down a path to opening up cycling on the Coast.
The U.S. Bicycle Route System is a developing national network of bicycle routes, connecting urban and rural communities via signed roads and trails conducted by the Adventure Cycling Association.
An Adventure Cycling Association representative, along with four members of the Harrison County Active Living Initiative, introduced how the county would benefit from being a part of the U.S. Bicycling Route 90 Cycling event to the board of supervisors.
After discussion, the Board of Supervisors agreed to the route going through the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Active Living Initiative Chair Cynthia Minton-Walker said, “It will have us noticed for great, safe pathways across the whole spectrum of bikers that are out there that want to see a new venue, experience something they haven’t because we’re here on the Coast and it’s not a secret if you get down here.”
There will now be a cohesive, safe pattern along the Gulf Coast for visitors and residents to enjoy riding their bike or taking a walk.
