Tylertown man charged with stealing vehicle, fleeing from deputies
A Tylertown man was arrested last week after deputies chased him in a stolen vehicle from I-10 onto Stennis Space Center.
Sheriff Ricky Adam said 29-year-old Sedale Payton is charged with possession of stolen property and evading law enforcement. He was taken to Hancock County jail.
Adam said in a press release that Payton ran from deputies on Interstate 10 who were part of the criminal interdiction unit. Payton was driving a stolen vehicle.
During his flight from deputies, Payton unknowingly took a turn into Stennis Space Center and then drove into the Pearl River. He was captured after swimming to shore.
Members of the Hancock County patrol division, narcotics division and criminal investigations who are part of the dive team recovered the stolen vehicle.
