Two vessels sunk to become reefs off the Coast of Biloxi
Two former fishing vessels were repurposed as artificial reefs last month.
Both were sunk off the Coast of Biloxi on July 26th and 27th, being used to create new biodiversity hotspots and new destinations for divers and recreational fishermen.
Both ships operated out of Moss Point and worked for a fishery for over 30 years, retiring in 2020.
The reefing was done in collaboration with the state’s Department of Marine Resources and Mississippi Gulf Fishing Banks.
Mississippi Gulf Fishing Banks President Ralph Humphrey said the vessels will provide an ideal underwater habitat, ultimately improving fishing and diving in Gulf Coast waters.
