Two teenagers in custody in relation to shooting in Ocean Springs

Two teenagers are in custody for the Sunday afternoon shooting of another teen at a park in the St. Andrews community in Ocean Springs.

A fourteen-year-old from Ocean Springs is charged as an adult with aggravated assault. He allegedly shot a 15-year-old boy twice. The victim is hospitalized in critical condition.

Sheriff John Ledbetter says the teens got away in an SUV driven by a 17-year-old, who is charged with accessory after the fact through youth court. His name is not being released. The sheriff says the 16-year-old passenger in the SUV was questioned but released.

The 14-year-old is jailed without bond in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center. At his initial hearing on Monday, Judge Mark Watts denied bond to the 14-year old, saying he is a danger to himself and the community.

The case remains under investigation and more charges are possible.
