Two Mississippi National Guardsmen killed in helicopter crash identified
The identities of the two Mississippi National Guard soldiers killed in a helicopter crash Friday were revealed over the weekend.
Chief Warrant Officer 4, 36-year-old Bryan Zemek, and Chief Warrant Officer 4, 42-year-old Derek Abbott, both served at the Mississippi National Guard Army Aviation support facility two located in Tupelo.
Officer Zemek was in Alpha Company First Battalion 149th Aviation Regiment serving as an AH 64 Delta Apache instructor pilot.
Officer Abbott was in the Delta Company of the Second Battalion, 151st Lakota Medical Evacuation Unit serving as a maintenance test pilot.
Their helicopter crashed Friday afternoon during a routine training flight in a wooded area near Booneville in Prentiss County.
