Two local hospitals receive federal funds aimed at helping rural healthcare providers

Two South Mississippi hospitals are getting federal funding aimed at helping rural healthcare providers keep workers and services in place.

George County Hospital in Lucedale and Highland Community Hospital in Picayune will each receive just over $187,000 through the Rural Hospital Provider Assistance Program.

They’re among 20 Mississippi facilities receiving a combined $3.75 million.

In a statement, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith says the funding is intended to help rural hospitals maintain services and keep their doors open.
