Two Harrison County churches merge together into one church

Two Harrison County Churches have decided to become one. Christ United Methodist Church of Long Beach and St. Paul United Methodist Church of Pass Christian are merging.

The decision came about when Christ Methodist was forced out of their building in 2020 due to a mold problem. They weren’t able to make timely repairs due to the pandemic.

Since July, members of both churches have been worshipping together and members voted Sunday to officially make the churches one.

Mississippi Area Episcopal Leader Bishop James Swanson Sr. was the guest speaker for the service. Rev. Guy Wimberly said, “These people have done such a good job of coming together, bridging a gap-getting to know each other, two different races, two different towns coming together and getting to know and love each other the way that Christ calls them to.”

After worship, the celebration continued as members enjoyed a catered lunch together.
