Two elementary schools close due to COVID cases
Two elementary schools in South Mississippi also have closed their doors due to COVID.
South Hancock Elementary announced its 14-day closure via a telephone messaging system sent to parents, according to reports.
George County School District also announced that all Agricola Elementary students will transition to virtual learning beginning tomorrow until Friday August, 20th following a large number of COVID cases and quarantine amongst staff and students.
George County Superintendent Wade Whitney says the school district monitors the positive cases and close contacts on a daily basis. “I’ll be quite frank with you. It’s pretty serious. So, again, we’re monitoring every single day. With Agricola it’s been really hot ever since the beginning of the school year because we had our first day of school last Thursday and it’s been hot since then. It just got to a point today where we just had to pull the trigger. We do everything we can every single day to keep our students in school, but at the end of the day our most important thing is to make sure our student and our staff are safe and so that’s why we made that decision today.”
Hancock County School District says teachers will be contacting parents with information about distance learning today.
